President Saddam Hussein wins 100% of votes

Baghdad, Oct. 16,

Iraqis elected President Saddam Hussein as their leader and a President of the Republic of Iraq for another seven years. President Saddam Hussein won 100% of votes in the referendum, which was carried out on 15 October.

People in Iraq with their various nationalities from all over the country rushed into polling stations to cast their votes to elect Saddam Hussein as their leader and President of Iraq.

The referendum was carried out in a democratic free and patriotic atmosphere. Voters declared their support and loyalty to President Saddam Hussein.

In a press conference on Wednesday attended by Information Minister Mohammed Sa’eed as-Sahaf and Justice Minister Mondhir al-Shawi, Mr. Izzat Ibrahim, Vice-Chairman of Iraq's Revolution Command Council, Head of the Committee supervising the referendum said that there were 11,445,638 eligible voters - and everyone of them voted for the president. President Saddam Hussein was the only candidate and won 100% of votes.
