Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright Statement on the Deaths in Nairobi, Kenya Bombing Washington, D.C., August 8, 1998 As released by the Office of the Spokesman U.S. Department of State

I am deeply saddened to confirm the deaths of 11 Americans as a result of the bomb attack on our Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya on August 7, 1998. All were embassy personnel, or their dependents, who gave their lives in the service of our country.

As we are still in the process of notifying the next of kin, and one American diplomat remains unaccounted for, I am only able to release the following names at this time:

Jean Dalizu, Defense Attache’s Office

Molly Hardy, Administrative Office

Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Sherry Lynn Olds, Military Assistance Office

The President and I, as well as all the members of our foreign affairs and defense community feel this loss very deeply. On behalf of the entire nation, I extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. To everyone affected: You are in the nation’s thoughts and prayers.

Let me once again assure the American people that the United States will not be intimidated by terrorists and will never forget their victims. We will spare no effort and use all the means at our disposal to track down and punish the perpetrators of these outrageous acts.
