Yugoslav air defense downs pride of NATO air force
March 28, 1999
The pictures of the downed plane, called by its developers the ''Nighthawk'', were broadcasted on the Serbian radio-television around midnight Saturday and those pictures were quickly taken over by the American TV network CNN. An aggressor ''Nighthawk'' plane was downed near the Voivodina village of Budjanovic, between Ruma and Sabac, at around 9 p.m. local time Saturday. U.S. F-117 single-seat attack and defense suppression aircraft is designed on the basics of the highest and newest ''stealth'' technology which makes the plane absolutely invisible for the radar systems.
''Nighthawk'' flies at the 9 times of the sound speed, has a 1750km range and can stay in air for 12 hours with the additional gas fill up. The wings are 13m wide, it is about 3,5m high and 20m long.
