Protest in Rome
Rome, April 10 (Tanjug) - A massive anti-war protest was held in Rome on Saturday afternoon, organized by the Manifesto newspaper, the Reformed Communist Party and a host of peace movements, with but one message: Stop the war.

In the long procession of more than 100,000 citizens of Rome and other Italian cities were parliamentarians, leftist party officials, peace movement activists, and Yugoslavs living in Italy.

In the forefront were Italy's most prominent peace activists Pietro Ingrao, Valentino Parlatto, Aldo Tortorella, Luggio Magri and Lucia Morganti, who carried a huge poster proclaiming "Let's Stop the War."

At the head of the line was Father Jean-Marie Benjamin, secretary general of the St. Angels Foundation of Assisi.

"I have always been with those who are against bombings and who support peace. The people have the right to know what NATO is dropping in the heart of Europe and that the United Nations has been turned into an instrument of embargoes, bombings and counting the bodies", the priest said.

Protesters insisted that NATO has no humanitarian agenda, and that its only agenda is world domination. They shouted messages such as that NATO is waging an illegitimate war, NATO is a liar, Clinton is a murderer, Yankee go home, Peace now, etc.
