Economic policy for 2000 December 20, 1999
The policy lists as priorities, coordinated with the Yugoslav government and the National Bank of Yugoslavia, the second phase of the country's reconstruction accompanied by the further development of market economy and continuation of reforms, economic and social stability and considerably higher production and exports. A restrictive budget and the financing of the entire public spending from real sources represent the backbone of this stabilization and development policy, the statement said. Prices of goods and services will be formed freely except in the sector of infrastructure and utility systems and in the case of basic produce and foodstuffs vital for the population's living standards.
The policy also gives priority to social goals, specifically social welfare for families with low wages, regular payment of pensions and quality health care services, education and other social activities. These goals, which are to secure the country's speedy development and higher living standards, will be achieved through the full mobilization and unity of all creative and patriotic forces in the country, the statement said.
