Todisko: Yugoslavs should decide on their own about their government September 20, 2000
Massimo Todisko spoke to the journalists ahead of his leaving for Belgrade tomorrow, where he will, as the president of Milan organization invited by Yugoslav government, be one of the independent international observers at the elections scheduled for September 24th. I leave for Belgrade without pressures. On the contrary, the Yugoslav authorities have granted me to meet freely with all the persons I wish to meet, which is in accord with democratic elections, president of "Osservatorio di Milano" emphasized. However, European Union statements, given ahead of the elections in FR Yugoslavia, that l the possibility of lifting the sanctions against FRY depends on the outcome of the elections, are immoral and shameful. This promise comes from the countries which last year killed more that 2.000 innocent civilians during the bombing of the most proud and most brave nation in the world, president Todisko said.
Now, those same countries speak in advance about forgery and stealing at the elections. It is our duty, and especially the duty of the international media, to immediately start electoral silence and to leave the citizens of FRY to decide on their own about the authority in their country. Serbian people showed incredible courage and dignity even during the bombing, clearly showing us that even the bombing cannot be forced them to the decisions of the international community, president of the "Osservatorio di Milano" reminded.
