[allAfrica.com] Over 2000 Congolese Cross to Hoima New Vision (Kampala) NEWS October 23, 2002 Posted to the web October 23, 2002 By Amlan Tumusiime Kampala OVER 2000 Congolese refugees have crossed into Hoima district via Lake Albert fleeing tribal clashes between the Lendu and Hema in their country. The resident district commissioner, Deo Nsereko, said the refugees are camped in Buseruka and Kigorobya along the shores of L. Albert. Nsereko said some of them have been in the area for long and have already acquired this year's graduated tax tickets disguising as Ugandans. He said a security committee recently recommended that all Congolese should either register as refugees or go back to their country. "These people should either register as refugees and we take them to Kyangwali refugee camp or they go back to their country," Nsereko said. Kyangwali camp originally accommodated 15,000 refugees from the Congo and Sudan but now has 25,000.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2002 New Vision.
