[allAfrica.com] Kure's Suppressive Politics This Day (Lagos) NEWS December 11, 2002 Posted to the web December 12, 2002 Lagos The incumbent Governor of Niger State. Engr. Abdulkadir Kure is at it again. In his bid to secure a second term, he has employed the politics of suppression/ intimidation by using state muscle. Recently, his goons have started putting up posters all over Minna covering and destroying the billboards and posters of his perceived rival, Alh. Abubakar Dawuda Kutigi who is currently enjoying the support of Nigerlites. Such archaic method of politics belittles Kure's image and will definitely confine him with the likes of the late Gen. Abacha and his suppressive tendencies of perceived political enemies. Alh. Abubakar Dawuda Kutigi, who has come out to challenge Kure under the umbrella of PDP in what political pundits call a battle between Goliath and David (Alh. Kutigi's middle name is Dawuda) will have to forgo his posters and billboards and concentrate on proving to Nigerlites his capability to govern well. Such will definitely determine whether he will occupy the exalted seat. Alh. Kutigi's ability to muster the support of Nigerlites will be his advantage, as he cannot fight Engr. Kure financially or otherwise since the latter has the power of incumbency as well as financial might in his favour. Nigerlites on the other hand will have to decide between money politics and good governance as the buck stops at their table, with their votes!
