[allAfrica.com] Why Youths Went On Rampage in Yola, By Zwingina This Day (Lagos) NEWS December 25, 2002 Posted to the web December 27, 2002 By Abel Orih Yola Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Hon. Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina has attributed the recent violent protests and demonstrations that rocked Jimeta-Yola, the capital city of Adamawa State to the lopsided way in which the state government favour a few individuals over the majority. Senator Zwingina who spoke to THISDAY in his house Jimeta - Yola, said it is natural for people to react when too much is given to a few while others suffer. He said, "there is a particular place where one person was appointed chairman of a transition committee of a local government and as well appointed as a chairman of a board in an area where there are so many people looking for an appointment. That particular appointment angered those protesting youths and if you listen to them carefully there is really some justification in their anger. "You can not have a state where so many people are looking for jobs and you give one person two jobs, definitely that must create the such of anger that the youths have recently exhibited". The Senator availed that those who protested violently are well known in the state, saying, that "they belong to the Shinco Organisation that has been virtually spoilt in the state by a lot of privileges and patronage."   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2002 This Day.
