Police Step Up Security Checks Following Killings

Police have intensified security operation in Nairobi in the wake of increasing
cases of carjackings and robberies.
Nairobi Provincial Police Officer John Mengoh has ordered an elaborate security
network to crackdown on criminals who have been terrorising Nairobians.
The PPO said roadblocks have been erected on all roads leading into the city to
reduce carjackings and robberies.
Mengoh said that police on patrol on Friday night gunned down three suspected
gangsters and recovered two home-made guns loaded with two rounds of
ammunition.
He said many people had been robbed and shot on highways as they drove home and
police had initiated strategies to curb the menace.
Mengoh said detectives are still pursuing the five armed gangsters who cold
bloodedly shot dead two employees of Chandaria Industries and escaped with Sh1
million.
Preliminary investigations have established that the robbers had left a get-
away vehicle near the Safari Park Hotel where they later abandoned the Toyota
Scarlet vehicle.
Employees at Chandaria Industries have been interrogated in connection with the
incident but no arrests have been made.
Detectives are tracking down the organised group of criminals who have been
terrorising Nairobians.
The gangsters shot dead a matatu driver along Lusaka Road and dumped his body
near the Industrial Area police station.
It is believed the driver was shot dead after he defied the gangsters' orders
to stop and attempted to drive into the station.
The Flying Sqaud and the Special Crime Prevention Unit officers have been
instructed to be vigilant.
