[allAfrica.com] [Africa_2003] Congolese to Demonstrate in Kampala The Monitor (Kampala) NEWS June 7, 2003 Posted to the web June 8, 2003 By Alex B. Atuhaire Kampala A section of Congolese activists are to demonstrate in Kampala today to protest massacres in Kisangani by foreign troops in June 2000. The demonstration is to remember the 5-10 June 2000 fighting between Ugandan and Rwandan troops in Kisangani, in which many Congolese civilians were killed. "This day will also be used for commemorating the Kasika, Makobola, Ituri genocide by foreign armies, and Tutsi groups who exported their conflicts to Congo," Mr Eugene Kabamba, said in a 1 June letter to Kampala Extra Police Commander, Mr Ben Nyeko. Mr Kabamba is the chairperson of the Peace Activities and Youth Campaign Against Torture (PAYCAT), one of the Congolese groups organising the demonstration. The Uganda and Rwanda armies, who entered the DR Congo as allies, fought three times in Kisangani between 1999 and 2000 straining the relationship between the two nations.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2003 The Monitor.
