[allAfrica.com] [US-Africa_Business_Summit_Registration] Strike is Mutiny, Ogohi Warns Armed Forces This Day (Lagos) NEWS June 21, 2003 Posted to the web June 23, 2003 By Kingsley Nwezeh Abuja The former Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi yesterday warned members of the Nigerian Armed Forces against contemplating industrial action as it would amount to mutiny. He also called on officers and men interested in politics to resign from the force and join political parties as the military establishment abhorred politics. In his valedictory speech at a farewell parade (pull out) to mark the end of his career in the military as well as his position as chief of defence staff, Ogohi urged the rank and file to remain loyal to constituted authorities. "You chose the career yourselves. Do not get involved in politics, if you want to join them drop your uniform. You have to be loyal to the government and you must be disciplined. Do not go about writing petitions without names, don't be a coward, put your names there. Do not go on strike because that is mutiny", he warned. While thanking President Olusegun Obasanjo for finding him fit to occupy the position, he expressed belief that he was leaving behind an armed forces commited to the sustenance of democracy.
