Why Warri Curfew Was Lifted - Delta Govt Daily Champion (Lagos) NEWS January 2, 2004 Posted to the web January 2, 2004 By MUYIWA ODU Warri DELTA State Government has explained further why it suspended the about 10- month long dusk-to-dawn curfew on Warri. It said the decision was based on apparent return to normalcy and the need to bring back foreign and local investments which graph was falling. Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan disclosed this to Daily Champion in Warri. In suspending the curfew last Tuesday, the state government had cited a new atmosphere of peace and fresh rapprochement among residents as a factor in the decision. The curfew was clamped following incessant bloody ethnic clashes. Several lives and property were lost during the crises. Dr. Uduaghan said the present situation in the oil-rich city is calm with people going about their normal businesses devoid of acrimony. He spoke of the need to restore Warri to its former glory as a thriving centre of international and local business. The lingering crises, the SSG noted, had robbed the city of its status and had also threatened to push it to a back water. Dr. Uduaghan appealed to investors to take advantage of the prevailing peace and security and return en masse to Warri. He regretted the bloody crises that had engulfed the city and environs pointing out that the situation affected the people, state and country. Dr. Uduaghan commended Gov. James Ibori for his peace initiative aimed at arresting the crises in the area.   ===============================================================================  Copyright © 2003 Daily Champion.
