D-Gov Warns Youths Against Violence This Day (Lagos) NEWS January 7, 2004 Posted to the web January 7, 2004 By Efem Nkanga Uyo The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State,Obong Chris Ekpenyong, has warned youths in the state to desist from engaging in violence and shun all forms of political thuggery. Ekpenyong gave this warning in Obot Akara Council in a paper titled, "Role of the youths in community development," delivered at a youth forum in the area. Obong Ekpenyong urged the youths to seek to emulate reputable citizens in the state, warning them to de-emphasise all acts that are capable of causing hatred and dissaffection amongst the people. He said emulating citizens who have proved their mettle would go a long way in putting the youths on the right track for the future, urging them to be serious with good and uplifting endeavours. Ekpenyong said the achievement of great people started when they were youths adding that the state government had already taken steps that will empower the youths both economically and intellectually for the future. He told the youths to avail themselves of every opportunity provided for their own good. In his remarks ,the chairman of the occasion, Mr Leo Kuru called on the youths to be prepared for the challenges of the present and future.He urged them to strive at all times to be good ambassadors of the state and advised them to involve themselves in positive ventures that will help their future aspirations.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2003 This Day.
