[allAfrica.com] Kony Has Rusty Guns - Museveni New Vision (Kampala) NEWS March 23, 2004 Posted to the web March 23, 2004 By Ali Mao Kampala PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said LRA rebel leader Joseph Kony and his group are using old and rusty guns to attack the UPDF because the Khartoum government had stopped supplying them with arms. "I am very confident that Kony no longer has strength because he is now using old guns like mortors which his rebels fire at a 45 degree angle thus cannot target and hit the UPDF positions. We have now diminished and reduced his strength," Museveni said. Addressing youths at Lira Hotel yesterday, Museveni said the LRA had run out of arms. He dismissed reports that the rebels had sophisticated guns. Lightening makes noise before it strikes and after striking it kills only one or two people. So the question of LRA having big guns should not worry the Amukas because those big guns make noise. They are not effective than the small ones, Museveni said. He said there was a plan to equipped and arm the auxiliary force with Light machine guns and multiple grenade launchers. Amuka militias only lack confidence and knowledge, he said adding that they will be sensitised and trained on how how to operate guns and motors. The meeting was attended by LCs.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 New Vision. All rights reserved.
