[allAfrica.com] [Africare] Police Intervene in Ijaw Youth Crisis Vanguard (Lagos) NEWS April 4, 2004 Posted to the web April 5, 2004 The two warring factions of the Ijaw Youth Council, Lagos Council Chapter have been asked to live in peace. This followed the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO), in charge of Ajeromi-Ajegunle Police Station in Lagos State. In a statement in Lagos, Comrade George S. Deinkoru, said to represent the authentic group, said the faction led by Goodluck Eminah had lodged a complaint at the police station requesting that their faction be stopped. According to Deinkoru, after listening to the two sides, the police counseled them, urging them to settle their differences and learn to live in peace. Reacting, Deinkoru, said he thanked the police for the fatherly intervention, adding that the Eminah group had earlier asked him to sign a resignation letter which he rejected. "I will not allow what happened to Governor Chris Ngige of Anambra State to happen to the Ijaw Youth Council", he said, pointing out: "I was sworn-in as Lagos Chapter President by Mr. Felix Tuodolo the National President, therefore the claim by my opponents that they were sworn-in by elders is unacceptable to the IYC constitution", he explained.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 Vanguard.
