[allAfrica.com] After Arresting Army Captain, Soldiers Attack Eastern Police Concord Times (Freetown) NEWS April 14, 2004 Posted to the web April 14, 2004 Freetown Jemilatu Nababa and Rachael Horner Eastern police station came under attack again Easter Monday but this time with sticks and stones amidst threats of razing it to the ground by irate soldiers of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) who were masquerading during that day's festivities. According to the Inspector-General of Police, Brima Acha Kamara who called a Press Conference Tuesday, a Captain of the RSLAF, M. Kargbo wounded one of his personnel. Concord Times gathered that trouble started when the drunk Capt. was arrested because he was misbehaving and efforts to pacify him by police officers proved futile. The I.G said the captain was handcuffed, arrested and placed onboard one of their police trucks. He said when soldiers who were masquerading saw that their boss has been arrested; they jumped inside the truck and forcefully released him. Sergeant Noah Sesay of Police Media said the soldiers even threatened to set fire on Eastern Police station while Sergeants Edward Macarthy, and Gborie of Eastern police were among those beaten by the soldiers "Some gun shots were reportedly fired into the air at the junction of Sackville Street and Abacha Street to disperse the crowd," the I.G said and continued," We later contacted Brigadier Nelson-Williams who came and put the situation under control." A committee had been set up to look into the matter.   ==============================================================================  Copyright © 2004 Concord Times. All rights reserved.
