Speaking yesterday in Asaba, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Magnus Onyibe equally said that though the state government abhors violence, it was wrong on the part of Federal Government not to have accorded the state what was due to it. He also accused the Federal Government of "not doing anything to protect the source of the wealth. That is the situation we find ourselves in. You will be surprised to find out that the state produces 35 per cent of the wealth of the country has very little federal presence." According to Onyibe, most of the federal institutions in Delta State are maintained by the state government, adding that roads are also maintained by the state government. "The police stations in Delta State were paid by Delta State Government. We built than. The NTA Station in Delta State was paid for by Delta State Government. Almost all parastatals and institutions of Federal Government that operate in Delta State are funded by Delta State Government," the commissioner averred. He stressed that all these are the burden the state government is saddled with, which many people do not understand and as such a wrong impression that so much was accruable to the state and nothing to show for it.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 This Day.
