[allAfrica.com] [The_Monitor,_Kampala] Uganda, Sudan to Renew Treaty New Vision (Kampala) NEWS April 17, 2004 Posted to the web April 19, 2004 By Jude Etyang Kampala UGANDA and Sudan were yesterday set to sign an agreement to update the 1964 extradition treaty. The treaty is among the draft bilateral agreements proposed at the joint ministerial commission talks at Hotel Africana Kampala. The two-day meeting aimed at reviving the joint ministerial commission which collapsed in 1995 is considering several bilateral draft agreements in various sectors including security, trade, immigration and education. Acting foreign affairs minister Tom Butime and Sudanese foreign minister Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail will sign the agreement after adopting reports from the four delegate-committees. The Sudanese director of military intelligence, Maj. Gen. Majoub Sharfi and Sudanese state minister for international co-operation Ishraq Sayed Mahmoud were among the 18-member Sudanese delegation that attended the talks. Updating of the extradition treaty is among the recommendations in the preliminary report of a committee formed to discuss and draft legal agreements on security, refugees, immigration and administration of justice.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 New Vision.
