Onen Kamdule, has been killed by the UPDF in Pader. The army spokesman in the north, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, said yesterday the UPDF killed 54 rebels in the Kit Valley, north of Magwi in southern Sudan in the Monday battle. Ankunda said 77 rebel fighters with their commander, Maj. Sylvo Okot, surrendered to the UPDF with an assortment of weapons in Pajule, Pader district. "Onen died in a simple battle at Luzira, north west of Palongo. It was one bullet into his head and down he went. It was him among the 11 that died," Ankunda said. He said the escorts tried to take away the body, but were scattered by UPDF fire. Ankunda said the Kit Valley encounter took place at around 5:00pm when the group led by commander Odhiambo, who led the attack on Barlonyo IDP camp recently and Lakony, an aide to rebel leader Joseph Kony, were heading to his bases in Bin-Rwot and Lubangatek. "They were taking lots of sorghum, goats, chicken to Bin-Rwot and Lubangatek. They dropped the loot," Ankunda said. He said the Sudan operation involved the 97th infantry battalion and the helicopter gunship. Ankunda said among the 77 that surrendered in Pajule were 22 fighters, 20 women and 10 children.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 The Monitor.
