[allAfrica.com] [allAfrica.com_Top_Headlines] I Did Not Receive Any Warning - Tinubu This Day (Lagos) NEWS May 21, 2004 Posted to the web May 21, 2004 By Shaka Momodu Lagos Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has refuted newspaper reports that the President had given a notice of warning to the state along with some other states of the federation. Governor Tinubu who spoke with journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Ikeja on arrival from an emergency meeting at Abuja noted that he had received no verbal or written warning nor was the peaceful atmosphere in the state threatened to warrant such action. According to him the various religious and tribal conflagrations witnessed early in the life of the administration, along with the bomb explosion had adequately prepared the state government for the proper management of crisis and disasters. Saying Lagos had managed past problems creditably, the Governor said the views he expressed concerning the declaration of a State of Emergency in Plateau State was not about the action but the removal of the Governor and the suspension/dissolution of the democratic apparatus. According to him while the President in exercise of the powers in Section 305 of the Constitution can declare a State of Emergency based on his perception of events, the removal of the Governor and State House of Assembly are unconstitutional since the Constitution does not give the powers of dissolution to the President.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 This Day.
