Gulu LC5 chairman Col. Walter Ochora recently said Kony had ordered two of his field commanders, Dominis Ongwen and Tulu, to carry out the attacks on Gulu town. Ochora was meeting the Pope's envoy and president of Justice and Peace in the Vatican, Cardinal Renato Martino, in his office in Gulu on Tuesday . Martino, who had paid a courtesy call on Ochora, also discussed peace related issues with the resident district commissioner, Max Omeda. Ochora said Kony appointed LRA vice-chairman Vincent Otti to head the attacks. "I spoke to Otti yesterday (Monday, May 31) who was surprised to discover that the army was already aware of Kony's orders to begin attacks on Gulu," Ochora said. Ochora said the atrocities caused by the LRA have forced many people, including children, from Gulu and the entire Acholi region to abandon their homes at night and trek into towns to find safe places where they could sleep for fear of being abducted in the night. "Since the LRA war started in the north, many children have been abducted and sexually abused by the rebels," he said.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 New Vision.
