[allAfrica.com] Soldiers Sell Stolen Grenades in Liberia Standard Times (Freetown) NEWS June 22, 2004 Posted to the web June 23, 2004 By Mohamed Amara Josiah As the hardship in the country continues unabated, the strains on the people have begun to show, as security officials stand accused of stealing grenades for sale in Liberia. According to sources close to the border with the two countries, two soldiers, namely Sgt. Quewa and Corporal Bania are currently detained at the military headquarters for their involvement in the mysterious disappearance of a box of grenades. The military intelligence source disclosed that the accused allegedly stealing arms from as yet undeclared locations and taking them across the border to Liberia, where it would be sold to Liberians wanting to cash in on the disarmament process ongoing in the country. It is no secret, the source maintains, that a lot of cross border transaction continues to go on between the two countries, despite all these years of strife, a feature that has been exploited by various kinds of factions in the two wars.
