76 Kony Rebels Captured, 27 Killed

Seventy-six rebels of Joseph Kony have been captured or have surrendered to the
UPDF 4th and 5th Divisions in the last one week. The UPDF Northern Region
Spokesman, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, said in a statement on Saturday that the rebels
were captured or they surrendered to the army between July 11-17.
He said the army recovered 1,145 bullets and rescued 55 captives. The UPDF
killed 27 rebels and lost two soldiers while two civilians were killed in the
same period.
He described the capture of LRA senior planner "Brig." Kenneth Banya as "a
landmark achievement." Banya was last week captured at Okidi in Attiak, 72 kms
north of Gulu town. Another senior LRA commander "Maj." Isaiah Lowum and 18
fighters surrendered to the UPDF last week.
