[allAfrica.com] [celtel.com] Stop Kony Aid - Bishops The Monitor (Kampala) NEWS July 27, 2004 Posted to the web July 27, 2004 By Moses Odokonyer & John Muto Gulu Northern Uganda bishops and their southern Sudan counterparts have asked the Sudan government to stop supporting LRA leader Joseph Kony. They made the appeal in a statement issued at the end of a two-day crossborder workshop at Acholi Inn in Gulu on Friday. The LRA have bases in southern Sudan, but they continue to cross the border to wreck havoc in northern Uganda. "The governments of neighbouring countries and regional and international bodies should put sustained pressure on the Government of Sudan to urgently cease support to the LRA," the bishops said in a joint statement on Friday evening. The religious leaders accused the international community of not doing enough to stop the northern insurgency they described as one of the world's worst crises. The 4th Division Commander, Col. Nathan Mugisha, asked the bishops to condemn the LRA terrorism, which he said had denied people peace. "There is no production although we have fertile land. We have lost a whole generation of child soldiers who have developed the culture of living by the gun."   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 The Monitor.
