They also handed in 14 rifles, a statement from the UPDF spokesman in the north, Lt Paddy Ankunda, said on Saturday. The army said since April, 400 rebels have surrendered. Meanwhile, three Lira passengers and their driver, only identified as Saidi, were killed on Saturday when their Fuso lorry en route to Pader landed into an LRA ambush at Puranga near Rac-koko. The UPDF spokesman in Kitgum district, Lt Chris Magezi, on Sunday said the rebels opened fire at the lorry, killing three passengers. Five other passengers sustained injuries and are getting medical treatment in Lira and St Joseph hospitals. Magezi, however, said the situation was calm and that UPDF foot patrol soldiers are pursuing the rebels.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 The Monitor.
