[allAfrica.com] [allAfrica.com_Photoessays] Police Arrest Zctu Leaders Zimbabwe Independent (Harare) NEWS August 6, 2004 Posted to the web August 6, 2004 By Staff Writer POLICE in Gweru yesterday broke up a Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) meeting and arrested four of its leaders on allegations of holding an illegal public meeting. The four - secretary-general Wellington Chibebe, first vice-president Lucia Matibenga, coordinator Timothy Kondo, and Midlands vice-chairperson, Sam Machinda - were arrested at the Gweru Theatre where they were holding a workshop. Riot police stormed the meeting and forced the crowd to disperse before taking the four to Gweru central police station where they were still detained at the time of going to press.
