[allAfrica.com] Police Expose NGO in Human Trafficking Concord Times (Freetown) NEWS April 20, 0823 Posted to the web August 23, 2004 By Rachel Horner Freetown A non-Governmental Organization, HANCI, engaged in human trafficking from Sierra Leone to America has been exposed by the police, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of crime, Richard Moigbeh, disclosed Saturday. Mogbeh says that Dr.Roland Kargbo, Emeric Abu and John Gbla all working for HANCI often visit homes and cajole destitute parents to give out their child to be taken care of in an orphanage run by the organization in Makeni. He explained that Kargbo and co pretend receiving funds from overseas to take care of the children whom they transport in batches to Guinea And Ghana from where they are trafficked to another organization, Main Adoption Placement Services (MAPS) which sponsors the criminal syndicate. MAPS later sells the children to other foster parents where they are treated as domestic slaves. Moigbeh also added that Emeric Abu and John Gbla had formed another NGO operating clandestine programmes after they broke out from Dr. Kargbo not too long ago. They were caught with 29 children. Police are currently tracing the biological parents of the children whilst investigations continue.
