[allAfrica.com] [celtel.com] Police Kill 31 'Talibans' Vanguard (Lagos) NEWS September 26, 2004 Posted to the web September 27, 2004 By Sadiq Abubakar GOVERNOR Abdullahi Adamu of Nasarawa State has enjoined Nigerian Muslims all over the world to consider lack of adequate funds to run the affairs of the Abuja National Mosque as a great challenge in the course of Islam. The governor made the call Friday in Maiduguri as Chairman, Sub-Committee on Launching and Funds Raising of National Mosque, Abuja when he led members of the committee to Borno State on sensitizing and enlightening the Muslim Umma what necessitated the organisation of an appeal fund to rehabilitate the National Mosque. According to him, the initial master plan of the National Mosque has been distorted right from the beginning as it initially incorporate infrastructures such as schools, offices, shops, houses, bookshops and other facilities as a complete neighbourhood or village. But the mentioned infrastructures are presently not being built or developed due to lack of funds. He said also the workers attached to the mosque due to under-funding can not be paid their salaries and wages accordingly to include inadequate dues collected to run the affairs of the mosque. Governor Abdullahi noted that President Obasanjo has constituted a Technical Committee as a National body with sub-committees chaired by distinguished Personalities to source for funds from the Muslim Umma to finance the rehabilitation of the National Mosque in the interest of unity which informed the sub-committee"s visits to all state capitals to preach the gospel. He stressed that already an estimate of the entire rehabilitation plan has been produced and plans have been completed to organise the launching of the Appeal Fund in Abuja by next month. Said he; "we are here essentially on a continuation tour of all states of the federation to sensitise the Muslim Umma to donate generously for the rehabilitation of the National Mosque. "We are members of sub-committee on Launching and Funds Raising of the National Mosque with Special Adviser to the President and Head of Service of the Federation as well as Governors of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states as members." In his response, Governor Ali Modu Sheriff said the visit of the committee is timely and called on all and sundry of the Muslim Umma to contribute immensely to the progress and development of the National Mosque.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 Vanguard.
