[allAfrica.com] Draft of Niger Delta Master Plan Released Nigeria First (Abuja) NEWS October 11, 2004 Posted to the web October 11, 2004 Abuja The draft of the Niger Delta Regional Master Plan was released and presented to stakeholders over the weekend of 8 October in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The stakeholders, who are made up of representatives of oil companies, the oil producing states and donor agencies, are expected to provide their input before a final copy is released before the end of this year (2004). The Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Onyeama Ogochukwu, who presented the draft, said that the Plan marks a new dawn for the accelerated development of the Niger Delta region. He added that, the goals policies and programmes outlined in the draft are expected to be implemented within 15 years. The Master Plan is based on two developmental phases: an immediate interim action plan and longer-term interventions. The first phase has started yielding results as the Commission has already embarked on strategic projects as well as aggressive human development programmes.
