[allAfrica.com] Three Feared Dead As Youths Invade Ibrede Vanguard (Lagos) NEWS October 11, 2004 Posted to the web October 11, 2004 By Austin Ogwuda Asaba NO fewer than three persons were feared dead at Ibrede town in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State when youths from a neighbouring local government allegedly invaded the town. The invading youths believed to have come from Ofagbe in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state, according to an eye-witness, engaged in a bloody clash with another group of youths in Ibrede and Awah towns, resulting in the use of machetes and other dangerous weapons, leaving several people wounded. The reason for the attack has not been ascertained as at the time of this report, however, Mr. John Gabriel who is a councillor in Ndokwa East Local Government Area representing Ward 9 Ibrede and Awah merely told reporters at the weekend that "the youths shot people indiscriminately at the market square in Ibrede and captured one man, aged about 40 years and cut his body into pieces with machetes." He lameneted that his people and Ofagbe had never had any previous misunderstanding and wondered what could have necessistated the susprise attack. Also speaking, the Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Council, Mrs. Mary Chidi confirmed the incident and said that the council had already notified the DPO in charge of the area and the Army Captain in charge of Peace Keeping, 3 Force at Aboh. It will be recalled that a detachment of armed soliders was dispatched to Aboh following a mayhem that resulted there when men of the Federal Road Maintaince Agency (FERMA) came to carry out road maintainance work on the old Aboh road.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 Vanguard.
