[allAfrica.com] ['An_Enduring_Vision'-_October_10th,_Newport_Beach,_California] Massob Does Not Pose Threat to Nigeria - Iwuanyanwu Vanguard (Lagos) NEWS October 11, 2004 Posted to the web October 11, 2004 By Emma Amaize Warri A chieftain of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu says the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) does not pose any threat to the unity of Nigeria but the only thing is that the members have firmly refused entreaties from the elders to change the its name. He told Vanguard at Oghara in Ethiope West local government area, where he came to attend the burial ceremonies of the late Madam Comfort Ibori, mother of the Delta State governor, Chief James Ibori, weekend, that the only thing that "many Igbo leaders have told the group to change their name because they are not happy with the name but they, the young people say they want their name". According to him: " I think the government should know and I am using this opportunity to let them know that MASSOB is not a threat. It is a group of people agitating for the restoration of certain rights and so on. They have no arms, have no resources, nothing. In fact, I can tell you that MASSOB is just like the militant groups in some other tribes of the country. The militant groups of other tribes pose greater threat to the unity of Nigeria than MASSOB". His words: "Igbo leaders are against any plan by anybody or group to divide this country. Igbo have invested and working. I have assets everywhere. Igbo have greater stake to the country than any other group. Any group which actually talk about dismembering the country I can tell you, have no Igbo leader 's support."   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 Vanguard.
