[allAfrica.com] Govt Readjusts Curfew Time in Monrovia As Security Improves The NEWS (Monrovia) NEWS November 3, 2004 Posted to the web November 4, 2004 Monrovia Due to the gradual improvement in security following three days of riots in Monrovia and its suburbs, the Chairman of the Transitional Government, Gyude Bryant, has announced that the 4 P.M. to 7 A.M. curfew imposed as a result of the violence, has been reduced to 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. beginning today (Wednesday). Chairman Bryant said the curfew would remain in place until security agencies along with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) say other otherwise. Chairman Bryant pointed out that as Head of State, he was not exempted from the curfew, and therefore advised Liberians to keep off the streets during the curfew hours. The Liberian leader spoke Tuesday when he addressed the regular session of the National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA). The lawmakers had requested the Chairman to address them regarding the security situation in the country following last week's riots which left lives and properties destroyed. Official account, as at Tuesday, puts the number of deaths to 18. In addition to this, the Liberian leader disclosed that from assessment done, more than 20 places of worship, including Churches and Mosques were destroyed by people he called hooligans. He said Government has not determined the actual people who perpetrated last week's violence, but that intelligence was leading in that direction.
