[allAfrica.com] [Africare] 142 Police Recruits Receive Certificate Commenced Field Training Wednesday The NEWS (Monrovia) NEWS May 11, 2004 Posted to the web November 5, 2004 By Alloycious David Monrovia One hundred forty-two police recruits of the 3rd class of the new Liberia Police Service Wednesday received certificates for completing an initial academic training program prescribed by the International Police Service. The police recruits include 125 men and 17 women. They have now commenced a six-month field exercise in continuation of their training program. The trainees will be attached to various police operational assignments during their six-month field training, after which, they would return to the academy for a month of consolidation and preparation for graduation. At a program to mark the commencement of the six-month field training, Deputy Police Director for Operation, Wongbay Sonkerlea commended the international police for the training, but he also pointed out that the police needed to be equipped with the requisite equipment to enable them perform up to the standard excepted of them. Also speaking at the event the spoke person of the class, Massah Bestman cautioned her class to put the interest of the state ahead in the discharge of their professional duty, "Adding that we have to do democratic policing".
