Attack On Bouake

Addis Ababa
The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Mr. Alpha Oumar Konaré,
is deeply concerned at the news of the resumption of hostilities in Bouake
early this morning.
The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union calls on both sides to
exercise maximum restraint. He urges them to abandon any recourse to the
military option and recommit themselves in earnest to the process of
implementation of the Accra III Agreement.
In the meantime, the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union is in
close touch with the Chairman of the African Union, President Olusegun Obasanjo
of Nigeria, on how best the African Union, working together with the countries
of the Region, can help defuse the present crisis.
