[allAfrica.com] [celtel.com] Muslim Group Assess Damaged Homes & Institutions The Analyst (Monrovia) NEWS November 9, 2004 Posted to the web November 9, 2004 A group of Mandingoes, under the banner of the Concerned Mandingoes Society of Liberia (COMSAL) over the weekend toured various mosques, schools as well as private residences of members of the Mandingoes ethnic group that were damaged during the recent violence in the City of Monrovia. According to a release, the group said the tour was intended to assess the level of damage done to these institutions and facilities during the recent riot in the city. The COMSAL's delegation headed by the Chairman Mohammed Massaley toured the Muslim Congress High School on Mechlin Street and the New Port Street Mosque, the release said. At the Muslim Congress High School, the Principal of the school, Sheik Mohammed Trawally who briefed them on the level of damaged done to the institution, met the delegation upon arrival. The delegation later visited the Newport Street Mosque where the chief Imam, took them on an inspection tour of the damaged facilities of the Mosque. The special COMSAL delegation later visited the United Da Wea Mosque on 17th Street in Sinkor, the 21st Street Mosque as well as the mosque on the back road leading to the Matadi Estate. Also during the assessment, the delegation visited the homes of Transport Minister, Dr. Vamba Kanneh, Justice Minister Kabineh Ja'neh, former Chief of Protocol, Moussa Cisse, Mohammed Kennedy, Varbah Swaray among others. The visit also took the delegation to the Black Gina Mosque in Jacob Town, Red Light where the violence started. At the mosque, displaced Mandingoes who spoke to our reporter said they have become displaced as a result of the recent violence as their homes got damaged during the violence. The displaced complained of hardship, and said since they got at the mosque, they are yet to receive any humanitarian assistance.
