[allAfrica.com] Ogoni People Now United P.M. News (Lagos) NEWS November 10, 2004 Posted to the web November 10, 2004 By Bamidele Ogunwusi Lagos The bond of love being displayed by people of Ogoniland has been described by the President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Mr. Ledum Mitee as very encouraging. He disclosed this while unveiling plans to immortalise Ken Saro-Wiwa and other Ogoni leaders who were hanged in 1995 by the military government of the Late General Sani Abacha. He stated that the division that led to the crisis of 1995, which resulted in the killing of Saro-Wiwa and 9 others, has been put to rest, thereby bringing out new Ogoni citizens who are ready to be their brother's keeper. Hear him: "My happiness is that we are more close as a people. There was division which made us lose the best of our people, but we have realised it and now we are together as a people." He hinted that MOSOP plans to immortalise their fallen heros, by putting up an edifice that will be dedicated to the study of the Ogoni struggle. He, however, lamented the reluctance on the part of both the federal government and the Rivers State to immortalise their heroes with buildings and street naming. He stressed that the non-violent posture of the Ogoni people, as against the militancy of other ethnic groups in the Niger-Delta area had not been rewarded by the government, adding that "government is paying dearly for this."   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 P.M.
