[allAfrica.com] [http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0921/p07s01-woaf.html?s=swAfrica] Ethiopia Sends Delegation to Brief US Officials On Peace Proposal The Daily Monitor (Addis Ababa) NEWS December 14, 2004 Posted to the web December 14, 2004 By Dagnachew Teklu Addis Ababa Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said yesterday that Ethiopia has sent a delegation to the US to brief their officials on the new peace initiative. Meles who gave a press conference along with German President Horst Kohler said that the US government has not yet issued a statement on Ethiopia's five-point peace proposal. "I do not believe the US has rejected our proposal. However they have not issued a statement welcoming our proposal either." Meles said He said that a high level government representative has left for the US this week to hold consultation on the matter. Meles said that his government is waiting for a positive response from the US. "Whether the US issues a statement or not, we very much hope that their position will be in line with the position taken by international community as a whole, which means that war is not an option," he said, "I hope the consultation will result in a similar positive stand, if not a similar positive statement," he added. Meles also indicated that whoever wants to start another war should be held accountable between the two countries. President of the Republic of German Kohler, who is on a five-day official visit in Ethiopia on his part said that only peaceful means could solve the two countries current difference.
