[allAfrica.com] [celtel.com] Chief Attacks Acholi Leaders New Vision (Kampala) NEWS December 15, 2004 Posted to the web December 15, 2004 By Charles Mukiibi Kampala THE Acholi paramount chief has accused Acholi politicians of sabotaging the peace initiative being mediated by former minster Betty Bigombe. Rwot David Onen Acana II said the politicians were interfering with the peace talks to draw the attention of the international community. "These politicians only want to show the world that they are the ones who worked hard to bring peace in Acholiland when actually they are not," Acana said. He was on Friday closing the human rights week at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu . He called on Acholi leaders to support Bigombe's efforts by sending one clear message to the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) leadership. He said it was wrong to mix politics and peace. Acana said some politicians were jealous because cultural leaders and Bigombe met the LRA high command recently in Palabek, Ogili sub-county. "We as cultural leaders are not bothered about what they are doing. We shall have nothing to do with politics. But they should desist from interfering with our struggle for peace," he said. Acana denied rumours that cultural leaders had initially blessed the LRA to take up arms against the local community.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2004 New Vision.
