[allAfrica.com] [Contribute_for_the_People_of_Niger] Liberians Should Not Expect Much Too Soon The Analyst (Monrovia) NEWS November 28, 2005 Posted to the web November 29, 2005 By George Borteh The Standard-bearer of the Liberia Destiny Party (LDP), Mr. Nathaniel Barnes who was defeated in the October 11 Presidential and Legislative Elections but later supported the Unity Party of Madam Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf in the just ended November 8 Run-off Election, has called on Liberians not to expect too soon from the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf-led Unity Party Government. He stressed that Liberians should, this time around, be able to manage their expectations, adding that such expectations as expressed in past governments should be discarded. "By expecting too soon should be something that Liberians need to keep and see later," he noted. Mr. Barnes noted that Madam Sirleaf's election as president after round of civil wars in the country has set a historical event in Liberia and the whole of Africa. He said Liberians should be proud of themselves for the right step in electing Madam Sirleaf as the First Head of State for Liberia and stop establishing overzealous expectations. Mr. Barnes further assured Liberians that the Unity Party Government will be a government of national unity and inclusion, adding that it will not only be centered around the Unity Party but have all the political parties in the country's electoral process on October 11, and November 8, 2005. He said the unfolding events in the country's history are not about one group of people but about Liberia and Liberians. Mr. Barnes added that the elected Unity Party Government has outlined three areas of a government of inclusion which have to do with character, capacity and courage. He said he has learnt from the country's electoral process that money cannot hold, adding that diversity, ethnicity, tribalism and religion also failed in the face of the Liberian electoral process. "I' m very, very happy about that," he pointed out. He said there can be unity in diversity, adding that Liberians need to embark on the process.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2005 The Analyst.
