[allAfrica.com] ADF, NALU Harass Congolese - UPDF The Monitor (Kampala) NEWS November 29, 2005 Posted to the web November 29, 2005 By Felix Basiime Mbarara THE Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and the National Army for Liberation of Uganda (NALU) are said to be terrorising the Congolese people, the army has said. The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) spokesman for the 2nd Division, Lt. Tabaro Kiconco, yesterday said the two forces are "harassing civilians in Iringeti and Alubani villages" which he said are about 150kms from the Uganda/ Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border. Iringeti is in North Kivu province in Ituri. "They are stealing their food and forcing them to be labourers, " Tabaro said. "For us (UPDF), we have decided to monitor both the ADF and NALU rebels because they are causing a lot of unrest among the civilians," said Tabaro. Early this month about 400 Congolese stormed Rwebisengo in Bundibugyo district fleeing fighting in DRC. About 30 Congolese militias too fled into Uganda and have since been handed over to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) while the civilians have slowly returned home. The fighting came from the government forces and Monuc as they fought the militias from all their positions following an ultimatum of September 30 to have all militias join the government. UPDF has always said that ADF, NALU and the Peoples Redemption Army (PRA) are Ugandan rebel forces of Ugandan origin based in DR Congo.   =============================================================================   Copyright © 2005 The Monitor.
