Moses Wantu Officials of the World Bank currently in the country paid visit to the Capitol Building yesterday. The essence of the visit is not yet established, but an official of the World Bank delegation told legislative reporters that the World Bank was concerned about the incoming legislators who were recently elected by their respective citizens. Mr. Parminder Brar said the World Bank has concluded arrangements to take the incoming lawmakers to neighboring Republic of Ghana for a one week visit. According to him, it is intended to expose them to what he called "parliamentary activities and to enable them make new friends." The World Bank official said it was necessary for the incoming legislators to make the trip to Ghana as it would afford them the opportunity to interact with their Ghanaian counterparts. "Before the first legislative gathering, we are going to take the representatives and senators to Ghana for one week for interaction with the Ghana's Parliament and from there we are going to follow with other support," the World Bank Official told newsmen. Besides that, he also said the Bank has also concluded plans to partially renovate the Capitol Building, seat of the National Legislature. Mr. Brar was quick to point out that though the whole building might not be renovated by the Bank but significant portion of it will be considered for renovation by the Bank. He told newsmen that though it was his first visit to the legislature, the Bank and the leadership of the legislature will meet and finalize arrangement for the kickoff of the renovation project. The World Bank official however could not mention the estimate costed of the partial renovation of the Capitol Building.
