[allAfrica.com] Islamic Courts Object to AU Decision of Deploying Peacekeepers Shabelle Media Network (Mogadishu) NEWS September 14, 2006 Posted to the web September 14, 2006 By Aweys Osman Yusuf Mogadishu Somalia's Union of Islamic Courts clarified in a statement they issued that are vehemently opposed to the decision reached in Addis Ababa Ethiopia by the African Union and IGAD to deploy 8,000 African peacekeeping forces to Somalia. Abdirahman Ali Mudey, the Islamic Courts' information officer, stated that AU's decision was impulsive and might bring back bloodshed into war-ravaged country. "Deploying unwanted peacekeepers in Somalia is in fact a perilous decision made by AU and we will never forsake our stance of turning down any foreign intervention in our country", Mudey Said. About eight thousand African peacekeepers are due to arrive in Somalia within next month as made clear by African Union authorities in their last decision. Earlier Somalia's Islamists threatened that Somalia would be a graveyard for any foreign soldier who lays his foot in Somalia. Ethiopia and Uganda are the only governments, known up to now, that have military troops in Somalia. =============================================================================== Copyright © 2006 Shabelle Media Network.
