[allAfrica.com] State Deports Muslim Cleric The East African Standard (Nairobi) NEWS 7 May 2007 Posted to the web 7 May 2007 By Standard Reporter Nairobi A muslim cleric accused of having ties with wanted terrorists has been deported, police sources have confirmed. On Saturday morning, two anti-terrorist police officers accompanied handcuffed Mr Imam Ibrahim Mohammed alias Ibrahim Obied on Kenya Airways plane destined for Comoros islands. The move comes despite Thursday's High Court ruling in Mombasa restraining both the Police Commissioner and the Attorney General from deporting the man believed to be from Comoros islands. Police insisted the cleric arrested during a counter-terrorist raid has links with terrorist suspects - Mr Fazul Mohammed and Mr Nabhan Saleh Ali. Mohammed, 27, was arrested alongside 10 others during a night raid by anti- terrorist police unit in Guraya. Police were looking for wanted terror suspect Fazul Mohammed, indicted for the August 1998 US embassy bombings in Dares Salaam and Nairobi and Ali Nabhan, who is wanted for questioning over 2002 suicide bombing of Paradise Hotel in Kikambala, Kilifi. Eleven people arrested have since been released and police had been holding the cleric while investigating his possible connection with terrorist and Guantanamo bay remandee Mr Mohammed Abdul Malik.
