allAfrica.com * NSCDC to Bear Arms January 2008 Leadership (Abuja) NEWS 31 December 2007 Posted to the web 2 January 2008 By Moses John In its bid to ensure total eradication of vandalisation in Nigeria, officers and men of Security and Civil Defense Corps would commence the use of arms by January 2008. This was the revelation of the comptroller general of NSCDC, Dr Ade Abolurin at the corps annual event; festival of songs at the headquarter in Abuja at the weekend. Abolurin disclosed that the reason for the delay in the full implementation since the corps was granted licence to move with arms was to ensure that only credible defendants and those with non questionable characters would be allowed to use the arms. "First of all we don't want to be identified with criminals and criminal tendencies , we have been able to make selection of the persons that would be involved. Scrutiny is going-on everywhere with a view to identifying them and having proper records of their background. We shall also train them locally through the Nigeria Army and bring them centrally to be trained here and that would commence in January". The CG also commended men and officers of the NSCDC for their tireless efforts in exposing the activities of vandals in the country, stressing that this has brought about low queues in filling station. In his words: "We thank God Almighty for everything, but we can only say we have tried our best in recent times by exposing the activities of vandals in ensuring the arrest of vandals and recovery of items. We can say there are people in court under prosecution and also a lot of money that we were able to save for government because of the cost of repairs and cost of replacement of vandalised properties. "Also, you can see that there is low queue in filling stations, no scarcity of the product at all because of our crusade against vandals". --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 2007 Leadership.
