Borteh Liberia and Rwanda have signed a Memorandum of Understanding through their respective ministries of National Defense yesterday in Monrovia. The MOU was signed by Liberia's Defense Minister Brownie Samukai and his Rwandan counterpart, Gen. Marcel Gatsinzi at the Ministry of National Defense offices in Monrovia, Speaking earlier at the signing ceremony, Minister Samukai thanked Gen. Gatsinzi for forming part of the armed forces day celebration held on February 11, 2008. Minister Brownie Samukai said the MOU strengthens the bilateral relationships and military partnerships between Liberia and Rwanda. He said the MOU will help in exchanging opportunities and discussing challenges as to how both armed forces can proceed to resolve some of the undisclosed challenges. He noted that the signing of the MOU provides Liberia the opportunities to learn from Rwanda through its school of difficulties and their path to success. "You know Rwanda have come a long way and they have been able to improvise under difficulties times and are on the path to success," Minister Samukai said. Rwanda Defense Minister, Gen. Marcel Gatsinzi, said the MOU is a great opportunity for his country and people, adding his government has expressed the willingness to help the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). Though Gen. Gatsinzi did not mention any specific areas of interest to the AFL, he assured minister Samukai that his country is in readiness to help rebuild the country's armed forces. Liberia and Rwanda were engulfed with civil unrest that resulted to the death of thousands of their citizens.
