The school named Alfurquan Islamic School located at Angwan Lariya in Jalingo was said to have been operating secretly until the outbreak of the crisis by the Boko Haram Islamic sect in Bauchi which spread to other states. Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer Babaina Sani confirmed the discovery and closure of the school, saying the police had placed surveillance on the school to avert any crisis. Chairman of the Taraba State chapter of the Moslem Council of Nigeria Alhaji Inuwa Jauro Manu Mafindi also confirmed the existence of the school, saying its teachings were inconsistent with the doctrines of Islam. "I have three grand children who were attending the school, but I have since withdrawn them as a result of the unusual traits exhibited by them", he said, Mafindi added that the pupils from the school were prohibited from bathing with soap, eating meat as well as eating anything prepared with magi, among others. While advising Moslem parents to be mindful of the schools and Mallams that teach their children, the Islamic leader called on the state government to always investigate anyone desiring to establish a school before granting permission. The state Commissioner for Education Anthony Adda described the school as illegal, saying it was not registered by his ministry. "We have already written to the state police command, the Director SSS as well as the acting state governor, informing them about the existence and closure of the school", he said. Meanwhile, the proprietor of the school whose mane was given as Sabiu was said to have left the school two weeks ago with his two wives and children to Maiduguri to join other members of the sect.
