Missile Attack on U.S. Afghan Base

A U.S. military aircraft in Bagram air-base

By Hussbanullah Mutawakkil, IOL Afghanistan Correspondent

KABUL, October 29 (IslamOnline) – Several missiles were launched at a U.S. base in Afghanistan Sunday, October 27, in an attack that caused no casualties.

Pakistani newspaper Al-Wihda reported Monday, October 28, that a U.S. base in Asaad Abad in eastern Afghanistan, were attacked by land-to-land missiles Sunday 27 October. The attack caused a very strong explosion.

“Six missiles launched from ‘King Gel’ mountain overlooking Asaad Abad city rocked the U.S. base,” and Afghan official told Al-Wihda. “The attack caused no casualties, but it harmed logistic materials in the base.”

A U.S. helicopter jet shelled the mountainous area suspected of being the missile launchpad.

American forces in Afghanistan have repeatedly come under missile attacks. The U.S. base in the east of Gardez city was struck by 4 missiles Thursday, September 12.

Bagram base was struck Monday, August 19.

Meanwhile, the Afghan News Agency (AIP) said that an Afghan government base in Gardez in Paktia province, southern Afghanistan, came under attack Sunday, October 27 when two BM/1 missiles landed in the base.

The agency quoted Mohamed Ismail, the military base spokesman, as saying that unidentified men from the mountainous area of Tere kendo attacked the base, adding that the missiles caused no harm or causalities.

Afghan security forces surrounded the area and arrested two people suspected of being involved in the attack, Ismail said, blaming the attack on the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

Meanwhile, U.S. forces released eight leaders from Konar province who were detained in the Bagram air-base, north of Kabul. In early August, U.S. forces had arrested 10 people, including Ruh-Allah, nephew of Mawlawi Gameel Al-Rahman, head of ‘Da’wa to Qur’an and Sunna’ in Konar province.

Neither Ruh-Allah nor leader Saber La’el was released.

“U.S. forces released 8 people arrested with Ruh-Allah. They will release Ruh-Allah and Saber La’el in the nearest future as promised by high-ranking government officials,” Ruh-Allah’s father told IslamOnline.

Asaad Abad has seen a big rally demanding the release of Ruh-Allah and his companions, and the departure of American force in Konar.
