BAGHDAD,
June 16 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) – At least six foreigners, including two
US occupation soldiers, and five Iraqis were killed Wednesday, June
16, in separate attacks across the war-ravaged country.
Two
US
soldiers were killed and more than 20 wounded in a rocket attack on an
American base in the city of
Balad
, 75 kilometers (45 miles) north of the Iraqi capital, reported Agence
France-Presse (AFP).
"Twenty-three
people were injured as a result of a rocket attack here at
approximately
1 pm
(0900 GMT) today. Two
injured, who were soldiers, died of their wounds," the
US
military said in a statement.
All
the wounded were evacuated to US military medical facilities.
The
deaths raise to 612 the number of
U.S.
soldiers killed in action since the U.S.-led invasion of
Iraq
in March 2003, according to numbers from the Pentagon.
Nine
Killed
Earlier,
an Iraqi doctor confirmed that nine people, including four foreigners,
were killed and 10 others wounded when a vehicle was targeted in the
restive town of
Ramadi
in western
Iraq
.
"We
have the bodies of five Iraqis and four foreigners," said
Mohammed Jalal, a doctor in the neighboring town of
Fallujah
, 50 kilometers (30 miles) west of
Baghdad
.
"In
addition, 10 injured Iraqis were admitted to our hospital."
The
doctor, speaking to AFP by telephone, was unable to determine the
nationality of the dead foreigners.
Citing
the local rescue services, he added that the four had been traveling
in an all-terrain vehicle, favored by the US-led occupation in
Iraq
, that was badly damaged in the explosion.
A
car
bomber blew himself up on a busy Baghdad street early Monday, June
14, as a convoy of vehicles from the U.S.-led occupation drove past,
killing at least 12 people, including five foreigners, and wounding up
to 50 others.
It
came hard on the heels of a deadly bombing that
rocked the Iraqi capital Sunday, June 13, and killed 16 Iraqis.
