GAZA
CITY, June 29 (IslamOnline.net) – Israeli helicopter gunships hit at
dawn Tuesday, June 29, several apartment blocs in Gaza City, including
a press office, while a Hamas activist was shot dead by Israeli
gunfire in northern Gaza Strip.
The
Israeli Apaches fired three missiles at the Al-Jeel press office at an
apartment bloc in Al-Rimal district, witnesses told IslamOnline.net.
The
building also houses media offices of Aljazeera, the BBC and other
news agencies.
"The
raid completely destroyed the office and badly damaged next-door press
offices," Al-Jeel chief editor Mostafa El-Sawaf told IOL.
The
incursion caused no human casualties, Sawwaf added, noting he left the
office only half an hour before the offensive.
He
categorically denied any links with any Palestinian faction, saying
the office just exposes the Israeli atrocities inside the occupied
Palestinian territories and corresponds to many media outlets,
including IOL.
"The
entire Palestinian media are targeted by the Israeli raids as they
successfully unfold the Israeli practices and crimes against the
Palestinian people," Sawwaf said.
But
he insisted that the Israeli military juggernaut would not break the
stanch will of the Palestinian journalists.
"It
will only strengthen our resolve and steadfastness," he vowed.
In
a second air strike minutes later, at least one missile destroyed a
foundry in nearby Nusseirat refugee camp.
This
is not the first time that Israeli helicopters hit Palestinian media
offices.
Israel
hit on May 2 an apartment building housing Al-Aqsa
radio, which
Israel accused of being linked to the Palestinian resistance movement
Hamas.
